PROVO, Utah — The BYU swim and dive teams had two school records broken in Columbus, Missouri on day two of the Mizzou Invite.

Mizzou Invite

The second day of the Mizzou Invite featured school records broken by Javier Nicolas in the 100-yard butterfly and Brad Prolo in the 200-yard butterfly. Another 21 personal-bests were also set by the Cougars, as the men (629) and the women (535) stay steady in second place after the day's events.

After breaking the school record yesterday in the 200-yard butterfly event, Brad Prolo set another new school record today, posting a 1:43.26. In the 100-yard butterfly event, Javier Nicolas broke the school record twice in the same day, posting a 46.49 in his first swim and a 46.40 in his second swim, breaking a record that had been standing since 2008 by Jorge Azevedo of 47.11. 

In the 50-yard freestyle, Evan VanderSluis (20.97) set a new personal-best time, breaking the personal best he set in yesterday's competition. VanderSluis also set a new personal record in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 53.03. 

Emma Marusakova (54.69), Julia Bartell (56.67) and Liza Slade (55.63) set new personal-bests in the 100-yard butterfly for the women's swim team, as well as Abraham Zimmerman (48.99), Tony Puertas (47.29) and Andrew Eliason (49.45) for the men. Career-best times were also set in the 100-yard backstroke event by Marusakova (54.86) and Diego Camacho (48.85). 

On the men's side, the 100-yard breaststroke featured personal bests from Will Bonnett (53.18) and Brad Prolo (53.18) while Mackenzie Miller (1:01.06) and Abi Furqueron (1:02.36) also posted career-record times in the event for the women.

Finally, in the 200-yard freestyle event, women's swimmers Halli Williams (1:53.23), Regan Geldmacher (1:49.14) and Megan Bergstrom (1:51.85) set new career bests, with Luigi Riva posting a new personal best in the event, swimming a 1:38.24. 

Utah Tech Invite

At the conclusion of the first day of the Utah Tech Invite, both the men (39 points) and women (4 points) swim and dive teams trail their respective fields. After competing in eight preliminary events Thursday morning, the teams competed in 10 final events in the evening.

Events included the 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard IM, 50-yard freestyle, 200-yard freestyle relay and 400-yard medley relay. Swimmer Darwin Anderson recorded the best individual place for the Cougars in the final events of the day, posting a 4:35.76 in the men's 500-yard freestyle coming in tenth place. 

Kylee Conrad posted a new personal-best time in the 500-yard freestyle final event (5:02.51), placing 18th overall in the competition. Max Cannon (4:40.18) also posted a new personal best time in the 500-yard freestyle event, good for 17th overall in his grouping. A personal best was also set by Izaak Hajek (21.74) in the 50-yard freestyle. 

The Cougars will prepare to wrap up their events at the Mizzou Invite on Friday, Nov. 18 at the Mizzou Aquatic Center. Preliminary rounds will begin again at 9:30 a.m. CDT, with the concluding final events taking place at 5:30 p.m. CDT. BYU will hope to build on their performance Thursday as they prepare for day two of the Utah Tech Invite. Preliminary rounds will begin again at 10:00 a.m. MDT, with the final rounds beginning in the early evening at 5:00 p.m. MDT. 

PROVO, Utah — The BYU swim and dive teams will travel to Columbia, Missouri this week for the Mizzou Invite from Nov. 16-18, and St. George, Utah for the Utah Tech Invite from Nov. 17-19. 

Following the duel against the UNLV Rebels, the men hope to continue their undefeated season, while the women are eager to bounce back from their first head-to-head loss this year. A number of universities will be competing at the Invite hosted by the University of Missouri.

In addition to Utah Tech and BYU, nine other universities will be competing in the Utah Tech Invite, including Fresno State, Nevada, and Pepperdine's women's team, along with Pacific, Cal Poly, UC Santa Barbara, UC San Diego, UC Davis and Northern Colorado. Final results will be posted on the BYU website following the conclusion of the events each day. 

A total of 30 athletes will travel from BYU's teams to the Missouri Invite, while another 18 will compete in the Utah Tech Invite.

Last Time Out

In the previous meet with UNLV, the BYU men's team bested the Rebels with a final score of 134-109, winning eight of the 13 events in the meet. The BYU women's team suffered their first loss of the year, losing by a final score of 139-104 and winning five of the 13 events on the day. There were multiple personal and season bests set by the Cougars in the events.

The events will begin in Missouri at 9:30 a.m. CT on Wednesday for prelims. Finals will be held at 5:30 p.m. CT each day. The events will be held at the Mizzou Aquatic Center.
