PROVO -- With a season-high 3,117 in attendance, the No. 10 BYU women’s soccer team (5-0-1) faced-off with the LSU Tigers (1-3-1) Thursday night ending in a double-overtime 0-0 tie after BYU's first meeting with extra minutes this season.

“I thought it was a good game,” said BYU head coach Jennifer Rockwood. “We had a lot of great opportunities tonight, as far as keeping momentum up, and LSU did a great job of not giving us too many good looks. We need to control the ball a little bit better and talk more on the field, but overall we played well tonight against a very good team.”

The Cougars started off the game strong with the first offensive attack coming from defender Lindsi Lisonbee, a shot into the hands of LSU goalkeeper Mo Isom.

Both teams went into the locker room at halftime scoreless after playing hard for 45 minutes. BYU had four attempts at goal in the first half while LSU had three.

BYU forward Carlee Payne contributed with one attempt with Jessica Ringwood adding two. For LSU, forward Addie Eggleston made up two of the attempts while forward Carlie Banks contributed one.

LSU came out in the second half with a quick first shot by Banks, but it was successfully deflected by BYU goalie McKinzie Olson. Olson recorded three saves on the night.

The Cougars fought back with a close call at goal by Kassidy Shumway, but the shot sailed just over the right corner of the goal, keeping the game scoreless.

With just 20 minutes to play in the game, Ringwood gave the Cougars another close call at goal with a free kick that barely missed the right corner of the net. Ringwood recorded a game-high four shots on goal for BYU.

After multiple attempts at goal from both teams, the second half came to a close with the score still tied 0-0 to force the game into overtime, the first overtime game for the Cougars this season. BYU had totaled 11 shots while LSU had six.

Despite the exhaustion from battling for 90 minutes, the Cougars started out strong in overtime with the first eight of the ten minutes spent on the offensive side of field. However, neither team was able to net the ball, pushing the game into double overtime and adding another ten minutes to the board.

Both teams battled hard, with BYU adding two more shots on goal. Unfortunately, no attempts from either team were successful and the game ended in a tie of 0-0. BYU finished with 15 shots while LSU had six.

The Cougars will next play this Saturday against the Marquette Golden Eagles in the last game of their five-game home swing on South Field at 7 p.m.

PROVO -- The No. 10 BYU women's soccer team will face two competitive soccer programs this week, starting Thursday against LSU and continuing on Saturday against Marquette as they seek to defend their undefeated 5-0 record.

Both games will be played on South Field with a 7 p.m. kick-off. Live stats are available for both games through the women's schedule page with Thursday's game also being aired live on BYUtv and Saturday's match aired live on BYU Radio.

In conjunction with Thursday's game, the Cougars are teaming up with the Utah Youth Soccer Association to celebrate Youth Soccer Month.

The event begins with a FREE CLINIC from 5:30-6:30 at Hawes Field (west of Indoor Practice Facility). All youth ages 4-18 are admitted to the clinic, run by Utah Youth Soccer coaches and professional soccer players. The first 200 youth are admitted for FREE to the BYU vs LSU game at 7 p.m. All youth wearing a UYSA jersey are admitted for $1.

Bring the whole family, for prizes, halftime contests and food during the game.

Youth Soccer Month is dedicated to increasing awareness of the benefits of playing youth soccer in America. The Cougars are proud to support this effort and further the work of the Utah Youth Soccer Association.

Come see the Cougars, and celebrate the No. 1 youth sport in America, on South Field.

The Cougars are starting this season with their best record since the 2005 campaign when they started on a 9-0 streak. With two games on the road, three at home and two wins over Top-25 ranked teams, BYU finds itself with its highest ranking this season at No. 10 in this week's Soccer America poll.

MWC Offensive Player of the Week Jennie Marshall leads BYU's offense with six goals and 16 shots. Marshall received her first career Player of the Week award and was named to two National Teams of the Week after her performance last week in helping BYU bring home two more victories.

The LSU Tigers come to Provo for the first time on a three-game losing streak with a 1-3-0 record this year after its most recent 0-1 loss to Virginia Tech. LSU was selected to finish second in the Western Division of the SEC in this year’s preseason coaches poll with four first-place votes coming their way.

The Marquette Golden Eagles will also play on South Field for the first time this week and are traveling with a 3-2-1 record. The Golden Eagles were selected to finish first in the American Division of the Big East Conference in this year’s preseason coaches poll.

BYU met both of these teams on the road last year, finishing a combined 0-2 against them.

After this week, BYU will play two games in Texas and one in Logan, Utah, before returning to South Field on Sept. 29 against Idaho State.
