Image

PROVO -- The No. 11 BYU Cougars scored three goals in the second half to give them the 3-0 shutout victory over conference opponent Air Force, Saturday, to extend their unbeaten streak to 12 games.

The Cougars (14-2-2, 5-0-1) proved their offensive dominance against the Falcons (2-14-1, 0-6-0), finishing with 16 shots to Air Force’s five. With the road win, BYU remains in first place in the MWC regular season race.

The Cougars, who lead the league in the number of corner kicks taken, had 12 in the game, scoring on one. Air Force recorded just one corner for the game.

Going into halftime, the score was tied at zero but the Cougars had led the attack for the entire 45 minutes and were ready for the win in the second half.

Freshman Carlee Payne gave BYU its first goal, her 11th this season, in the 66th minute after a cross from teammate Mercede Koning. Payne has now scored in ten of BYU’s 18 games.

BYU's second goal came as a header from freshman defender Lindsi Lisonbee, her first of her collegiate career, after a corner kick from Alyssa Vander Veur. Lisonbee's goal is the second this season to come from a Cougar defender, while Vander Veur recorded her third assist on the year.

Sophomore Auna Janis also scored her first goal of the season, a chip over the head of the Falcon goalie, in the 85th minute to give the Cougars their third and final goal of the game.

The Cougars have now had eleven team shutouts. Sophomore goalie McKinzie Olson gathered her 9th personal shutout after the win, to tie her career-high.

BYU will play its final non-conference game Wednesday at Weber State at 3 p.m. MT and its final conference game against Wyoming at South Field on Halloween at 1 p.m.
