Albuquerque, N.M. (Oct. 21, 2006)--No. 16 BYU was handed just its third tie of the season Saturday evening, as the Cougars didn't match the Lobos intensity, drawing 1-1.

With the tie the Cougars move to 12-2-3 on the season and 3-1-2 in conference play, while New Mexico goes to 7-6-4 on the season and 1-2-3 in Mountain West Conference action.

"New Mexico came out with a lot of intensity, and we weren't able to match it," head coach Jennifer Rockwood said. "We didn't come prepared to play the game today. It's very disappointing to travel all this way and not be prepared to play. But we're okay. We'll work hard this week and regroup for our last conference game before the tournament."

The Lobos netted a goal first when Bridgette Sanchez flicked a free kick to Amber Wetsch in the middle during the 31st minute. Wetsch one touched the ball into the left-hand corner of the net.

BYU fought hard, but didn't even the score until the 64th minute when Katie Larkin collected a loose ball from the top of the box and blasted in her sixth goal of the season.

The Cougars outshot New Mexico 19-10, including a 7-6 advantage in shots on goal. BYU also won the corner-kick opportunities, 6-4.

BYU keeper Erika Woodbury collected five saves, while Shannon Adragna made six saves for the Lobos.

The Cougars return to South Stadium Saturday to face UNLV at 7 p.m. The game will be televised live in BYUTV. BYU's nine seniors will be honored shortly before kickoff.

PROVO, Utah (Oct.17, 2006)--No. 16 BYU (11-2-2, 2-0-0) plays one game at home and one on the road this week during the third week of Mountain West Conference action. The Cougars challenge Wyoming (6-6-3, 1-1-2) on Thursday at South Stadium and New Mexico (6-6-3, 0-2-2) in Albuquerque. Game times are slated for 7 p.m., local time.

The Cougars played two games last week, tying San Diego State, 2-2, and defeating Air Force, 1-0. The Cougars' played some of their best soccer of the season last week, giving head coach Jennifer Rockwood a lot of confidence going into the final stretch of the season.

Katie Larkin, who has been named the MWC Offensive Player of the Week and named to several national teams of the week, leads BYU with four goals and 12 points. Three of those goals were game winners. Katie Fellows has also netted three goals of her own. Also scoring goals for the Cougars are Brooke Bowman (2), Haylee Cuthbert (2), Alyssa Vander Veur (2), Amberlea Anderson (1), Jessica Aquino (1), Kelsea Kakadelas (1) Jenavieve Phillips (1), Carolyn Swenson (1) and Claire Thomas. Larkin and Swenson lead BYU with four and three assists, respectively.

Goalkeeper Erika Woodbury has accumulated 44 saves on the season and now holds the record for most career saves at BYU with 165. She is also chasing two more records this season. Woodbury is tied with Jennifer Waldron with nine shutouts in a season. Waldron set the record in 1999, playing in 24 games. Woodbury has tied the record in just 15 games. With Woodbury's nine shutouts this season, she has 24 career shutouts and is just four shutouts away from becoming BYU's all-time leader. Waldron currently holds the record with 27.5 career saves.

Wyoming's offensive attack is spread evenly among its team with eight players netting goals on the season. Tamika Wilson leads the team with three goals. Comfort Adetoye, Christine Nagel and Emily Layton have each assisted on three goals this season. Keeprs Ashley Sheppard and Jamie Scarcliff have combined for 95 saves on the season.

The Cougars hold a 10-1 advantage against Wyoming with BYU winning last season's matchup 2-0 at South Stadium.

New Mexico's offense starts with Kristine Sweat, Bridgette Sanchez and Asha Richardson. Sweat has netted four goals, while Sanchez has scored three goals and assisted for three others. Richardson has also scored three goals of her own. Goalkeeper Shannon Adragna has saved 41 goals on the season.

BYU leads the series against New Mexico 10-2-2. New Mexico won last season's meeting, 1-0.
