PROVO -- In front of an enormous crowd that filled the stands and packed the sidelines, the BYU women's soccer team (4-0-0) demonstrated precision and teamwork on their way to defeating Utah State University, 5-0.
The game, which started with the crowd of 2,703 fans yelling, "B-Y-U! B-Y-U!" was a tough battle the first 15 minutes of play with both teams receiving good looks at the goal, but unable to capitalize.
With just over 17 minutes into the game, Bobbi Tillotson ran around several defenders on her drive to the goal. After running past one last Utah State defender, Tillotson found Carolyn Swenson for the goal.
BYU received a scare with 11 minutes left in the first half as the Aggies drew Erika Woodbury out of the goal amidst a crowd of people. BYU promptly returned the favor, however, as Annie Zwahlen immediately dribbled the ball up field, finding Jaime Rendich Beck. Beck passed the ball to Tillotson, who finished by placing the ball just past the goalkeeper.
The second half gave the Cougar crowd, one of the largest in BYU history, more to cheer about. With just over 16 minutes left in the game, Beck found the ball off a corner kick from Tillotson and headed the ball into the net for.
Six minutes later, Claire Thomas captured the audience's attention when she received the ball and fired a one-touch toward the net that soared right over the goalie's head, scoring her first goal of the season. Jessica Aquino sealed the deal with the final goal of the night, heading the ball in off a crosskick from Whitney Feller.
"We got off to a really good start," head coach Jennifer Rockwood said. "It was a great team effort. The players have been able to come together and feel comfortable within the team. I look forward to our team being able to build their confidence level and continue to score goals."
The win marks BYU's largest win over the Aggies since 1996 when BYU defeat Utah State, 6-0.
BYU plays two more games at home this coming weekend on Friday against Denver, and Monday versus Texas. Games times are set for 7 p.m. and 8 p.m., respectively. Both games will be played at South Stadium.

Provo, Utah (Aug. 31, 2005) -- The Cougars (2-0-0) return home to Provo on Friday to face a talented Weber State University (1-1-0) squad in the first of a four-game home stand. BYU will then look for its fourth win against in-state rival Utah State on Monday. The games will be played at South Stadium with game times slated for 7 p.m. and 8 p.m., respectively.
Coming into this week, the Weber State Wildcats have compiled a 1-1-0 record. The matchup with the Cougars will be their third road game in a row, with two more on the way, before returning to Ogden.
Weber State University opened up the 2005 regular season with a strong defensive effort, which paid off with a 1-0 win over Utah Valley State College. The Wildcat defense held UVSC to only five shots for the game, all of which came in the second half. The Wildcats then fell to Arizona State, 5-2, on Sunday despite a pair of career-first goals and 10 saves from senior goalkeeper Kandice Golar.
The Utah State Aggies, who struggle through a tough weekend by losing one game and tying the other, face BYU for their first road game of the season. In their season opener, Utah State fell to Gonzaga, 2-1. The game on Sunday against in-state rival Southern Utah ended in a 1-1 draw. Sophomore Dana Peart scored Utah State's lone goals in both games.
BYU leads the series against Weber State 8-0, as well as Utah State 2-0.
