Tempe, AZ (Oct. 27, 2000) Despite playing 90 minutes in a downpour, BYU's 11th ranked women's soccer team put in two goals in the second half to defeat Minnesota 2-0, Friday.
Jeni Willardson and Kim Lowe each scored a goal to give the Cougars their eighth straight win and eighth shutout of the season. Senior co-captain Natalyn Lewis picked up the assist on the Willardson goal.
"We did a nice job of making them chase us," said BYU coach Jennifer Rockwood. "We moved the ball well and played our possession style."
Both teams played to a scoreless first half before Willardson put the Cougars on the scoreboard in the 61st minute of the contest. Lowe sealed the victory with her eighth goal of the year at the 86 minute mark In the stats category, BYU outshot Minnesota 22 to 3.
The win improves BYU's record to 15-3-1, while the Golden Gophers fall to 8-9.
The Cougars will stay in Arizona and travel to Tucson for a Saturday night game against the University of Arizona.
