PROVO, Utah - In its third home meet of the season, the BYU gymnastics team defeated in-state rivals Southern Utah and Utah State, marking its second win of the season.

"The team came back on beam and bars and did relatively well," head coach Brad Cattermole said. "They rescued themselves from what could have been a bad week. I thought they turned it around rather well tonight."

The Cougars posted their best team score in the vault of the season, with every gymnast either tying or setting season-high marks.  Senior Natalie Eyre Pickard led BYU with a score of 9.875, with junior Sarah Yandow and sophomore Raquel Willman setting career highs, scoring 9.850.  Senior Mickell Merrell also recorded a career high mark of 9.825, and Senior Krysten Koval and freshman Jordan Schult set season-high marks, scoring 9.775 and 9.725 respectively.

Gymnasts Host USU & SUU for Annual Pink Meet

Image

PROVO, Utah – The BYU women’s gymnastics team will host in-state competitors Utah State and Southern Utah University, Saturday at 1:00 p.m. MST at the Smith Fieldhouse.

The team will be wearing pink to show their support for finding a cure for cancer. Last year in honor of trainer Gaye Merrill, who passed away from cancer, the team wore pink all season. The gymnasts are excited to show their support once again for a great cause. Admission to the meet will be $1 for those wearing pink.

The Cougars are coming off a loss at the University of Arizona and are looking to rebound with solid scores this week.

“These athletes are trying really hard,” head coach Brad Cattermole said. “They are giving it their best shot. We just have to keep going. We don’t have many meets left and we need to increase our personal intensity. If everyone on the team isn’t going as hard as they can, we’re going to be in trouble. We need everyone on the team doing everything they can for us to succeed.”

The meet will be broadcast live on BYUtv with live streaming on byutv.org. Live stats will be available at byucougars.com.
