PROVO -- The BYU women's softball team earned two big wins Tuesday against in-state foe Southern Utah, beating the Thunderbirds 11-0 and 12-0 in a double-header at Gail Miller Field. Game one featured the Cougars' first no-hitter since April 10, 2007 while BYU racked up 23 total runs in improving to 26-13 on the year.

"Our pitching has been really solid for us, and we're really starting to click offensively," said BYU head coach Gordon Eakin. "We're getting key hits with runners in scoring position and really driving the ball. Defensively, we're as solid as I think we've ever been. I really think we're hitting our stride and playing Cougar softball."

Freshman Kristin Delahoussaye led a well-oiled offensive machine for the Cougars, going 5-for-6 on the day with four RBI and a home run. Senior Emi Snow-Willing and junior Stephanie Platt-Hopkins also brought in four runs for the Cougars while Hopkins tallied two homers. Daniela Snow, Angeline Quiocho and Jessica Purcell also went yard for BYU while pitchers Christina Gwyn-Trice, Christie Zinanti and Paige Affleck combined for 10 innings of scoreless softball.

Trice got the Cougars started with a strike out on the first batter of the day. However, the real action didn't begin until the bottom of the first inning when Delahoussaye earned a leadoff walk and then Quiocho gave the Cougars a 2-0 lead with a two-run home run over the center field fence, her team-best 12th homer of the year. Snow kept the inning going with a double to deep center before Amanda Vance reached on an error. A line drive up the middle by Willing brought her sister-in-law home to make it 3-0 BYU.

The Cougar onslaught continued with a three-run home run by Hopkins, bringing home Vance and Willing to make the score 6-0 in favor of the home team. Four straight singles brought in two more Cougars to run the score to 8-0 before SUU recorded the third out of the inning.

Purcell got into the action for the Cougars in the bottom of the second inning, hitting her fifth homer of the year, a two-run shot over the right field fence to end SUU pitcher Katie Kearns' outing. Thunderbird Kristina Brooks gave up one more run to make it 11-0 BYU before striking out Caschjen Davis to end the inning. Neither team would score again in the game before the Cougars took the 11-0 victory after five innings by virtue of the mercy rule.

Delahoussaye got the Cougars started in the second game of the double-header as she dodged a tag at home plate to score the first run of the game. From there, BYU got singles from Willing and Purcell and a double from Shaylyn Jenkins while putting up six runs in the bottom of the first. BYU added two more runs in the bottom of the second inning with a solo home run from Snow, the Cougars' fourth of the day, and a double from Willing to bring home Quiocho.

Southern Utah got its first hit of the day when Norian James sent one into right field for a single. But the Thunderbirds could not capitalize as James was eventually caught stealing and Rodeo Carli was left stranded to end the inning.

Hopkins started off the bottom of the third inning sending her second ball of the day over the center field fence to put the Cougars up 9-0. Delahoussaye followed that up with a two-run shot to right center, bringing in Jenkins to make the score 11-0 with no outs in the bottom of the third. BYU added an insurance run in the fourth inning to reach the final tally of 12-0.

The Cougars will next be in action on Thursday with a double-header at UNLV beginning at 3 p.m. PT. BYU's next home contest will be April 18 against in-state rival Utah.

PROVO -- The BYU women's softball team (24-23, 3-1) hosts in-state opponent Southern Utah in a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, before continuing Mountain West Conference play with a doubleheader at UNLV on Thursday and two additional games at No. 19 San Diego State on Friday and Saturday.

Tuesday's twinbill will be the fourth and fifth meeting between the Cougars and the T-birds this season. In all three games earlier in the season BYU came out on top. The Cougs lead the all-time series 29-4, and hold a 13-1 record in the last three years.

The Cougars come into conference play second in the standings, just behind San Diego State (29-10, 2-0), while UNLV (19-21-1, 0-2) comes in last in the conference.

The game against the Aztecs will mark BYU's eighth game against a ranked opponent this season. The Cougars are 1-6 against their ranked foes, but five of the losses came against top-10 teams. They are 1-1 against ranked opponents outside of the top-10.
