FORT COLLINS -- BYU's (36-17, 12-3) record 16-game winning streak came to an end at the hands of Colorado State (27-26, 6-8), as the Rams defeated the Cougars 6-4 Friday afternoon.

Mountain West Conference Pitcher of the Week Christie Zinanti recorded eight strikeouts, but her team couldn't overcome a late rally by the Rams. Zinanti falls to 17-7 on the year.

"I don't think they beat us today," BYU head coach Gordon Eakin said. "I think we beat ourselves. We did some things that allowed them to come back when we had the game firmly in control. We knew sooner or later someone would beat us, so hopefully we'll regroup tomorrow and come out strong."

Colorado State pitcher Jessica Strickland kept BYU hitters from getting hot for most of the game, as the senior had fanned five and allowed only two hits going into the fifth inning. It was that inning where the Cougars' bats finally got going.

Dani Urincho-Snow led off with a single to left field. After a sacrifice bunt placed pinch-runner Stephanie Platt on second, freshman Angeline Quiocho singled and then stole second to put runners in scoring position. With two outs, senior Cortney Nix-Clark smacked one to right center for a two-RBI double.

In the sixth, Mountain West Conference Player of the Week Jodi Norton hit a lead-off double to right center. Emi Snow followed with a double to left, scoring pinch-runner Jana Anderson. Snow put the Cougars ahead 4-0 on a fielding error by the Rams' shortstop.

But just as BYU appeared to be in the driver's seat, Colorado State evened it all up in the bottom of the order starting with a Julia Kloppe two-out three-run smash that brought the Rams to within one. The same way it happened for the Cougars, a fielding error brought in CSU"s fourth run to make it a tie-game heading into the final inning.

In the bottom of the seventh, Ashley Munoz hit a walk-off two-RBI home run ending the game and BYU's streak.

The two teams square off again Saturday at noon (MST) in Fort Collins, Colorado.

PROVO -- BYU (33-16, 10-2) looks to improve on its record 13-game winning streak this week starting with its third matchup of the season against Utah Valley State (22-26) on Tuesday at Gail Miller Field. The teams square off at 6 p.m. (MST).

The Cougars are No. 1 in the Mountain West Conference with a record of 10-2. The team can build on its two-game lead over UNLV with wins at New Mexico (18-19, 7-5) on Thursday (12 p.m. and 2 p.m.) and at Colorado State (26-25, 5-7) on Friday (3 p.m.) and Saturday (12 p.m.).

Senior Jodi Norton leads the team and the MWC in home runs (20) and RBI (50). Norton is just one home run shy of tying BYU's all-time single season record of 21. Fans may get a chance to see her do it at Tuesday's game against the Wolverines.
