FRESNO -- Unable to break its string of losses to ranked teams, the BYU

softball team fell in both games of a doubleheader to seventh-ranked Fresno State Saturday in Fresno, Calif.

The Cougars (8-11) were shut out in the first game, 9-0, for the fourth time this season and third game in a row. First baseman Mindy Hanson managed the team's only hit as Meghann Pricer picked up her third loss in a row to fall to 4-6 on the season. The game was called in the fifth inning due to the mercy rule.

The mercy rule was also exercised in the second game, a 12-3 loss. The Cougars jumped out to an early lead with three unearned runs in the first inning, but didn't cross home plate again en route to the six-inning defeat. Maryon Dewitt got the loss for the Cougars to fall to 4-5 this season.

Fresno State's Amanda Scott not only picked up a pitching win against the Cougars in the first game, but as an outfielder in the second game, drove in two runs to break the all-time WAC RBI record previously held by Nina Lindenberg, also formerly of Fresno State.

BYU ends the pre-conference season with an 0-7 record against ranked opponents. The Cougars will begin their first-ever season against Mountain West Conference opponents next weekend at UNLV.
