PROVO -- After over a week's rest, the BYU men's volleyball team returned to action on Friday, knocking off Cal in three straight games, 15-2, 15-8, 15-6.

Cameron Van Tassell and Casey Jennings recorded 11 kills each in leading the Cougars to the exhibition-match victory in the Smith Fieldhouse. Jennings hit 11-of-14 (.786), while Van Tassell was 11-of-19 (.526) with just one error on the night. The 6-4 junior also led the Cougars on defense, recording a match-high eight digs and four blocks.

"BYU had a club team for many years," BYU head coach Carl McGown said. "Several NCAA teams used to come to Provo and play us before we became an NCAA-sanctioned program. They helped turn our program in to what it is today. We like to be able to return the favor by playing club teams whenever we can.

"I thought we did a nice staying in the match. We had some nice performances from guys who don't get to play a lot."

BYU returns to action on Saturday, playing host to Rutgers-Newark (7-11) in the Smith Fieldhouse at 7 p.m. (MST).
