BYU vs. Weber State box score

PROVO, Utah-- In its fourth straight win this 2016 season, the BYU men's tennis team defeated in-state rival Weber State 7-0 at home on Friday evening.

"I'm proud of our guys," BYU head coach Brad Pearce said. "It was a great effort. Coming back from Hawai'i on an overnight flight Tuesday took a toll on the guys because it was a quick turnaround to a Friday match. Our guys responded well physically and did what they had to do to win."

BYU (4-0) got things going early on by winning the doubles point. John Pearce and Jacob Sullivan defeated Weber State's (0-1) Landon Barlow and Hou-En Chen 6-3 to win the first match of the night for the Cougars. They were quickly followed by Andrey Goryachkov and Jeremy Bourgeois, who beat the Wildcats' Sanjay Goswami and Stefan Cooper 6-4. Because the doubles point had already been won, Shane Monroe and Keaton Cullimore's match against Weber State's Jakub Gewart and Todd Fought was suspended at 4-4.

Goryachkov carried his doubles success over to his singles game to win the first singles point for the Cougars, as he defeated Chen 6-4, 6-1. Monroe followed his teammate with the third point of the night for BYU, defeating Fought 6-2, 6-3. Cullimore's 6-4, 6-3 win over Gewart gave the Cougars their fourth point of the match and the victory. Sullivan, JD Malan and Bourgeois each won their individual matches as well.

The Cougars remain at home for their second match of the weekend hosting Nevada, Saturday at 5:30 p.m. MST. Admission is free to the public and free pizza will be provided.

Live stats for the Nevada match can be found on the BYU men's tennis schedule page.

BYU looks to extend win streak at home this weekend

PROVO, Utah—Coming off of three straight wins, the BYU men’s tennis team looks to extend its winning streak to five this weekend against Weber State and Nevada.

The Cougars will face in-state rival Wildcats on Friday evening and the Wolfpack Saturday. Both matches will be at 5:30 pm MST in Provo at the Indoor Tennis Courts.

"We're looking forward to playing two good teams in front of our awesome home crowd this weekend," BYU head coach Brad Pearce said. "There really is no place like home!"

Weber State (0-0) was recently selected to finish first in the Big Sky Conference in their preseason polls. They have yet to play a match during the 2016 season but competed in four different preseason tournaments during the fall. Weber State sophomore Hou-En “Edward” Chan faced BYU sophomore Scott Bohne during the ITA Regional tournament in October. Bohne lost to Chan in three sets 2-6, 6-2, 1-6.

Nevada (1-0) comes to Provo after a 6-1 victory at UC Riverside last Saturday. The team boasts four seniors, a junior, three sophomores and a freshman.

Admission to both matches is free. Free pizza will be provided at both events and fans that come before 5:30 will be entered into a drawing for prizes, such as a Roger Federer poster. Live stats and video will be provided for both matches on the BYU men's tennis schedule page.
