Born in Guiaynabo, Puerto Rico...parents are Jose and Milagras Rivera Perez of Guaynabo, Puerto Rico...one of three children...majoring in pre-medicine.

Before BYU

Maintained a 3.97 grade-point average throughout high school...earned top-10 honors at Colegio Marista HS...named Athlete of the Year in 1998 and '99...named Most Valuable Player in four of five tournaments during the 1999 season...earned All-Athletic Alliance honors from 1996-'99...named all-star game MVP in 1999...earned MVP honors in basketball in 1998-'99...a three time Junior Nationals All-American...has won two gold medals and a bronze medal while competing at Junior Nationals...played for the Puerto Rican Youth National Team, finishing third in Cuban tournament.
