• Majored in Fashion Design in the Department of Clothing and Textiles
• Sister played tennis at Notre Dame

Before BYU

• Prepped and four-year letterman at Dowling High School in Des Moines, Iowa
• Notched over 100 victories during his tennis career at Dowling High School and was twice named Team MVP (junior and senior seasons)
• Transferred from Orange Coast Junior College in Costa Mesa, Calif.
• Had a 20-1 doubles record and went 19-3 in singles
• Went to state three years and was a semi-finalist his junior year in the Boy's State of Iowa High School Tennis Championship Tournament
• Was ranked 10th in the Southern California Men's Open Sectional Doubles rankings with BYU teammate John Kline
• Competed on the 1982 USTA National Amateur Tennis Circuit and Championship Tour
• Had competitive instruction from John Newcombe's Tennis Ranch & Academy in New Braunfels, Texas as a junior player
