Steed picks up weekly honor
BYU Guard Haley Steed has been named Madness West Coast Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for her exceptional performance during the past week. College Sports Madness identifies the highest impact players nationally and from each conference in its weekly awards. The honor is the second for Steed this year by CollegeSportsMadness.com. Steed helped guide the Cougar women's basketball team to an 8-4 record and a five-game win streak with wins over UC Santa Barbara and Seattle last week.
The 5-4 point guard from Syracuse, Utah and Clearfield HS, dished out a game-high 11 assists to go along with five points, seven rebounds and one steal in the win over UC Santa Barbara. In the game vs. Seattle, Steed scored a game-best 18 points, going 5-of-6 from the free throw line, while dishing out a game-high seven assists and tying for most steals in the game with five. The points marked the fourth time this year that she's put up double figures in points.
Steed is averaging 9.3 points and 4.2 rebounds per game and leads the team in total assists and steals with 90 and 26, respectively.
