The BYU women’s basketball team got its first game experience of the 2012-13 campaign with the blue/white scrimmage held Tuesday in the Marriott Center.

All 17 players saw action in the five 10-minute periods. BYU head coach Jeff Judkins mixed it up after each 10-minute game with the blue team winning three of the periods.

“We saw some good things tonight and a lot of improvement from our returning players,” said coach Judkins. “There’s a lot of things that we need to work on as we prepare for the season.”

Sophomore Ashley Garfield had the lone double double on the night leading all players with 25 points and 12 rebounds.  Six other players recorded double digits in points with Lexi Eaton and Morgan Bailey putting in 20 a piece. Kim Parker Beeston was next contributing 18 points and five rebounds. Haley Steed followed with 14 points, four rebounds and four assists.

Rounding out the double figures in scoring were senior Keilani Unga with 13 points and nine boards and 10 points and eight rebounds coming from junior Stephanie Vermunt Seaborn.

The Cougars will play two exhibition games vs. Chadron State on Thurs., Nov. 1 and Dixie State on Fri., Nov. 2. Both games tip off at 7 p.m., and are free to the public.

BYU opens the season hosting Weber State on Fri., Nov. 9 at 7 p.m.
