Riley, Steed, Eaton Claim WCC Honors

The West Coast Conference announced its 2011-12 women’s basketball awards today with BYU’s Kristen Riley receiving the Player of the Year honor.

Freshman Lexi Eaton was named Co-Newcomer of the Year along with Gonzaga’s Haiden Palmer. Eaton also made the All-Freshman Team.  Riley and Haley Steed were named to the All-Conference Team. The league’s nine coaches selected all of the honors.

Riley led the Cougars in points and rebounds averaging 11.8 ppg and 7.9 rbs. In conference games she ranked fifth in scoring, first in rebounding, fourth in field goal percentage, second in 3-point field goal percentage, fifth in blocked shots and first in defensive rebounds.

During the WCC season she recorded eight double-doubles and became BYU’s 22nd player to reach 1,000 points in her career.

Eaton is BYU’s second leading scorer averaging 10.2 ppg and 3.0 rpg while Steed is top on the team in assists and in steals with 215 and 66 respectively. She currently ranks second all-time in career assists and broke the school record for assists in a season.
