Four Ink Letters to Play Women’s Hoops at BYU

PROVO, Utah –  BYU women’s basketball coach Jeff Judkins announced that Utah standouts Micaelee Orton, and Makenzi Morrison, along with talented Kristine Fuller from Clearwater, Fla., and Kylie Maeda from Honolulu, Hawaii, have signed National Letters of Intent to play for the Cougars.

“We signed what we feel are the top two local players and are excited about them joining our program,” said Judkins. “Our out-of-state players were heavily recruited, and we’re excited to have them be part of our future. All of them will fit really well with what we’re trying to accomplish.”

Orton, a 6-foot-2 forward from Kearns, Utah, and Kearns High School, was a three-time Deseret News 5A Honorable Mention All-State, garnered Second Team All-State and First Team All-Region honors and has played three years on the Salt Lake Metro Club team. She also lettered four years in volleyball and two years in track and field, and was on her high school’s high honor roll and a member of the National Honor Society.

Morrison is a 5-foot-8 guard from Sandy, Utah, and prepped at Alta High School. She was named the 2011 Salt Lake Tribune 5A MVP, and was an All-Region First Team honoree and picked up the 5A tournament MVP award and the All-Tournament team after the Hawks won the 2011 5A state tournament title.

Micaelee is very physical and her inside presence will really help us, while Makenzie is a good ball handler and will us strength with her outside shot,” added coach Judkins.

Kristine Fuller is a 5-foot-11 guard from Clearwater, Fla., and prepped at Palm Harbor University High School. She’s a two-time team captain, has garnered all-county citations and was named the FAAZ Magazine’s Next Level Top 24 All-Star Team for the state of Florida. Prior to her senior season, she had already reached 1,163 points and this year is already averaging 29.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 7.0 steals per game. Fuller was a four-year letterwinner in volleyball and was on the Palm Harbor University Principal’s List for academics.

Kylie Maeda, a 5-foot-5 guard from Honolulu, Hawaii, and Iolani High School, was named Player of the Year for the Interscholastic League of Honolulu in the 2010-11 season. She has received three all-state awards and finished her junior year averaging 15.0 points, 5.0 assists and 3.0 steals per game. Maeda played two years on the Kalakaua Basketball Club and has played seven years on the 808 Basketball Club. She is on the honor roll and made the head master’s list in academics for having a 3.5 GPA. 

“Kristine can play several positions for us both inside and outside and is an excellent all-around player. Kylee is very quick, is a good shooter and will fit really well with our up-tempo offense,” commented Judkins.
