PROVO, Utah – The Mountain West Conference announced three BYU women’s basketball players as recipients of the 2010-11 Scholar-Athlete Award Tuesday.

Athletes qualify for the award by completing at least two academic terms at BYU, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better, and have participated in varsity competition in an NCAA-sponsored sport.

Senior Marie Beck was honored with the award after earning a 3.72 GPA in mathematics education. This is the second Scholar-Athlete award for Beck, the first coming for her academic performance her freshman year.

Redshirt freshman Kim Parker was named a Scholar-Athlete for her 3.82 GPA in school health education. After sitting out her first year due to injury, Parker led the team in free throw percentage with .839 (26-31) and played in 33 of the 34 games.

True freshman Jennifer Hamson rounds out the three basketball players on the list with a 3.63 GPA. Hamson led the Cougars in blocks this season with 45. Hamson, whose major is undeclared, also competes on the BYU volleyball team.

Parker and Hamson were also named to the Spring Academic All-MWC team Monday.
