PROVO, Utah (June 27, 2011)—Five BYU women’s basketball players were named to the Spring Academic All-MWC team Monday for achievements on the court and in the classroom.

Athletes who earned the award had a 3.0 grade point average or better and had noteworthy roles on their teams.

Seniors Haley Hall and Coriann Fraughton received the accolades for a 3.20 GPA in exercise and wellness and a 3.10 GPA in physical education teaching/coaching, respectively.  Hall led the team in steals with 62 on the season, averaging 8.5 points and 3.3 rebounds. Fraughton averaged 11.5 points and led the team in rebounding with 7.2 per game. Both players started every game in the 2010-11 season.

Dani Peterson, a junior majoring in exercise and wellness, earned a 3.16 GPA and helped the team in all 34 games. Peterson achieved a career-high 12 points in the game against future WCC opponent Portland in December. She averaged 4.0 points and 3.1 rebounds and had the third-highest number of blocks on the team with 22.

Redshirt freshman Kim Parker achieved a 3.82 in school health education. After sitting out last season due to an injury, Parker contributed 5.0 points per game and 2.5 rebounds, playing in 33 of the 34 games. She also led the team in free throw percentage with .839 (26-31).

True freshman Jennifer Hamson, whose major is currently undeclared, earned a 3.63 GPA. Hamson blocked 45 shots this season, a team high, and averaged 7.7 points. She posed a significant threat on the boards with 5.1 per game and started 20 games.
