In Final MWC Home Game, Team Hosts SDSU
Fresh off a road win at CSU and after getting coach Judkins his 200th career victory, the BYU women’s basketball team plays its final home game on Saturday.
In first place in the MWC, and on a nine-game win streak, the Cougar women (20-7, 12-1) host SDSU (12-13, 6-7) Sat. Feb. 26 in a 3 p.m., start. BYU’s five seniors will be recognized at the conclusion of the game.

-The Cougars are led in scoring by senior guard Mindy Bonham who averages 12.4 points and 3.6 rebounds per game. Senior forward Coriann Fraughton follows averaging 11.4 points and a team high 7.4 rebounds per contest.
-Bonham also tops the list in assists with a total of 146. She also has the team’s best free throw percentage at .782, 43-55.
-Haley Hall has the most steals on the team with 52.
-Freshman center Jennifer Hamson is tops in the field goal percentage category at .609, 70-115. She also has the most blocks on the team with 37.

-BYU head coach Jeff Judkins picked up his 200th career victory in the 64-55 road win at CSU on 2/23/11
-Mindy Bonham has tallying a total of 1,216 points as of 2/24/11, which puts her in 16th place out of 20 on BYU’s 1,000-Points Club. She needs 69 points to tie for 15th place with Ambrosia Anderson’s 1,285 career points.
-Bonham has dished out a grand total of 444 career assists as of 2/24/11, which puts her in fifth place all time. She surpassed current assistant coach Stacy Jensen’s 432 with the 11 she dished out in the home win over TCU. She now needs 15 to tie with Karina Zapata for fourth place with 459 career assists.

TEAM CAPTAINS SELECTED
Mindy Bonham and Haley Hall have been chosen by their teammates as co-captians for the 2010-11 season. This is Hall’s third straight co-captain selection.
PLAYER UPDATES/INJURIES
Freshmen Morgan Bailey and Stephanie Rovetti will redshirt the 2010-11 season.
Sophomore forward Alexis Kaufusi will not finish the rest of this season after being diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma last week. The team will be wearing a white patch with a purple bow, her initials and her number on their team uniforms the rest of the year.
ABOUT NEXT MWC OPPONENT
SAN DIEGO STATE UNIVERSITY
In the latest MWC standings, San Diego State is in fourth place with a (12-13, 6-7) record. The Aztecs enter the week on a four-game win streak with their latest victory, a 68-50 home win over Air Force. Two players are scoring in double figures for SDSU with Paris Johnson’s 14.9 points per game and a 7.8 average in the rebound category. Courtney Clements contributes 12.4 points and 3.7 rebounds a game. Jessika Bradley leads the way in the rebound category grabbing a team high 7.9 board per contest. Coco Davis has the most assists with 145 and steals with 35. Head coach Beth Burns is in her sixth season with the women’s basketball program guiding the team to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA tournament last year.

Last Meeting – in San Diego on Jan. 26 (BYU won 65-55)
The BYU rallied back after an early deficit to get the 65-55 win over SDSU. Junior forward Kristen Riley recorded a new career-high 23 points in her explosive performance against the Aztecs on the road. She also added seven rebounds, two blocks and one assist. Teammate Coriann Fraughton and Mindy Bonham joined Riley in double-figures with 14 points apiece. The Aztecs went on a 10-0 run early in the first half to give them the 14-4 lead after six minutes of action. From there, however, the Cougars took back control of the game as they went on a 30-12 scoring streak to close out the half with a five-point lead. Riley led all players with 13 points as the teams headed into the locker room at halftime.
BYU extended their lead in the second half with a 9-0 run after being back from the half for just three minutes. Six of those nine points came from Riley.
The Cougars finished out the game, tallying 32 rebounds to the Aztec’s 26 and 22 assists to San Diego State’s nine. BYU senior guard Mindy recorded nine assists herself.
WHAT’S NEXT
After the home game against SDSU, the Cougar team finishes league play on the road. They travel to Albuquerque to take on New Mexico on Tues. Mar. 1 and then travel to Laramie to battle Wyoming on Sat. Mar. 5.
The following week it’s on to Las Vegas for the 2011 MWC Women’s Basketball Championships from the Thomas & Mack Center Mar. 8-12. The tournament winner receives an automatic bid into the 2011 NCAA tournament.
