Bonham Named Co-MWC Player of the Week
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – BYU guard Mindy Bonham has been named Mountain West Conference Women’s Basketball Co-Player of the Week for games played from Jan. 24-30. Wyoming’s Hillary Carlson was also named.
The honor is the first MWC weekly citation for Bonham in her career.
Both student-athletes led their teams to 2-0 records last week and into a tie for first place in the Mountain West Conference standings at 6-1.
Bonham, a 5-10 senior from Centennial, Colo., just missed a triple-double for the second time this season on Jan. 26 in a 65-55 win at San Diego State. Bonham scored 14 points and led the team with nine assists and eight rebounds. On Jan. 29 in a 76-64 win over New Mexico, she led the Cougars with 17 points and earned her third double-double with 10 assists. Bonham scored a fast-break lay-up to end a Lobo run that started the second half of action and scored seven of the next nine BYU points to build to a 12-point lead, 48-36.
For the week, Bonham averaged 15.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 9.5 assists per game. She shot .565 (13-23) from the field, including .250 (1-4) from three-point range, and a perfect 1.000 (4-4) from the free throw line. Bonham also had a season-high two blocks against UNM and two steals at San Diego State. She did not leave the court in either game, playing a full 80 minutes.
Bonham and the Cougars host Wyoming Wednesday night in a 7 p.m., tip.
