Tough Shooting Leads to Tough Loss for Cougars
ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico (February 27, 2010) - In a contest quite uncharacteristic of the BYU women's basketball team, the Cougars would fall 30-62 in a tough game on the road against the University of New Mexico Lobos.
"We got out played today," said BYU head coach Jeff Judkins. "For some reason we just weren't ready to play and we couldn't get the ball in the basket."
Mindy Bonham led the Cougars (18-8, 9-5) with seven points and four rebounds, shooting 3-for-5 from the charity stripe and played the most minutes of any other Cougar.
Neither team scored at the start of the game for over four minutes when the Lobos (17-10, 9-6) ended the streak and put the first points on the board. The Cougars tried to keep the score close throughout the first half but couldn't combat their unfortunate shooting as they headed into the locker room down by 19.
The second half started in a similar fashion with neither team shooting for the first two or three minutes but the Lobos, again, took off.
The Cougars struggled with their shooting, going just 18 percent from the field and 21 percent from the 3-point line.
Coriann Wood tried to bring the team back in the second half with back-to-back 3-pointers with nine minutes to play in the game, giving her her first and final points of the game.
BYU returns home to the Marriott Center on Wednesday, March 3, to take on Utah at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on BYU TV.
