At Hukilau Inv. Against San Francisco & Hawai'i
With a 3-2 record, the BYU women’s basketball team embarks on its second major road trip of the season, this time headed to Laie, Hawai’i to compete in the Hukilau Invitational. The Cougars will take on San Francisco (3-4), on Fri. Dec. 4 at 4 p.m. MST. On Sat., Dec. 5 they will battle the University of Hawai’i (1-4) at 4 p.m. MST.

The University of San Francisco has compiled a 3-4 record getting wins over Cal State Fullerton, Utah State and Prairie View A&M. The Dons compete in the West Coast Conference and returns four starters from last year’s team that finished with a 7-22, 3-11 record. They will play the University of Hawai’i on Thurs. Dec. 3 before the matchup with the Cougars the following day. Two players are scoring in double figures led by Ale Rhiena, a sophomore guard who records 12.0 points per game. Also in double digits is Donnisha Taylor, a 5-10 junior forward who tallies 11.7 points and grabs a team high 7.9 rebounds per contest. Head coach Tanya Haave begins her fifth season with San Francisco.

The Rainbow Wahine have compiled a 1-4 record to date with their lone win, a 63-58 victory at UC Riverside. Three starters from last season’s team that compiled an 8-23, 4-12 record finishing 7th in the WAC are back this year. To date the University of Hawai’i has two players scoring in double figures with 13.0 points coming from junior guard Keisha Kanekoa and 12.6 from Shawna Kuehu. The latter also tops the team in rebounds grabbing 6.6 boards per game. Kanekoa leads in the assist category dishing out a total of 14 to date. Dana Takahara-Dias is in her first season at the helm of the school’s women’s basketball program.
