PROVO -- The BYU women’s basketball team snapped its 10-game winning streak with a 61-57 loss to No. 25 New Mexico on Saturday afternoon at the Marriott Center. With the loss, the Cougars drop to 12-3, 2-1 on the season.

"It was a tough loss as we had several opportunities to win and we didn't capitalize when we needed to," BYU head coach Jeff Judkins said. "New Mexico is a very good team and they executed well."

Jazmine Foreman led BYU with 16 points and 7 assists. Cassie King was the only other Cougar in double-digits with 10 points.

After the Cougars took a 6-0 lead, the game quickly swung in favor of the Lobos with BYU trailing by as much as six points. The Cougars fouls added up as the Lobos had made 21 of 31 free throw attempts.

As BYU battled back for control of the game Foreman’s hot hand put up five points in the last two minutes of the first half to pull ahead 29-28.

The second half proved to be just as much of a physical battle as the first. New Mexico jumped ahead, and BYU fought to regain the lead. The Cougars trailed the Lobos for most of the remaining time.

BYU came within two points, by a hard drive to the basket from Mindy Nielson with less than 20 seconds left. With three made free throws the Lobos were up 59-54 before freshman Jenteal Jackson nailed a three pointer to narrow the lead to two points.

The Cougars were forced to foul with less than a second left, as the Lobos nailed both foul shots, they pulled ahead by four to finish the game 61-57.

With a 2-1 conference record, BYU heads to Las Vegas to take one UNLV on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
