LAIE -- Jazmine Foreman scored nineteen points and Coriann Wood added fourteen, both career-high point totals, as the Cougars overcame a six-point halftime deficit to beat USC 65-64 in the Hukilau Invitational on Saturday.

“I thought we had a great team effort today,” said BYU head coach Jeff Judkins. “Our players made big baskets when we had to, and they never gave up.”

Foreman led all scorers on 6-9 shooting, including 3-4 from behind the three-point line, and was a perfect 4-4 in free throws. Wood added another career-high with eight rebounds to help BYU mount a second-half charge to overtake the Trojans and hold on till the final buzzer. Trojan Nadia Parker also had eight boards.

After trailing through much of the first half, the Cougars came out strong and out-scored USC 37-30 in the final frame to seal the win. The second half was a back-and-forth battle that saw seven ties and eight lead changes in the last 15 minutes of the game.

BYU did not take the lead for good until the 0:48 mark, when Shawnee Slade had a lay up to give the Cougars a one-point lead, 63-62. Foreman’s two final free-throws put the team up three, and a last-second shot from USC provided the final margin.

Slade added 13 points, her 25th double-digit point total in her career. In total, BYU had four players in double figures; Cassie King added a season-high 14 points to go with her six rebounds.

“Cassie, Jazmine and Coriann made big plays for us,” said Judkins. “Slade really stepped it up in the second half and had some big stops for us and hit some big shots.”

As a team, BYU shot 49 percent from the field, and made eight three-point shots, compared to six for USC. The Trojans did out-rebound the Cougars 36-33. BYU made 9-15 free-throw attempts (60 percent).

The Cougars improve to 5-2 on the season, and USC slips to 4-3. Coach Judkins is now 9-4 all-time as a coach against teams from the Pac-10, and 2-0 this season.

BYU next takes the floor on Wed., Dec. 10 when they host in-state foe Weber State. The game will tip off at 5:00 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on BYUTV and BYU Radio, and a live stat feed can also be accessed on the schedule page at www.byucougars.com/basketball_w/. Utah State then visits the Marriott Center Sat., Dec. 13 for a 3:00 p.m. tip off.
