PROVO -- The No. 23-ranked BYU women's basketball team rode its bench to take a 64-39 victory over San Diego State (3-13, 0-6) Saturday in front of a season high 1,169. With the win, the Cougars (15-1, 5-0) remained undefeated in conference play.

"It was a good win. I'm really proud of these girls. They came together and played hard," BYU Coach Jeff Judkins said.

San Diego State came out energized and took a quick 5-0 lead after a three pointer from Veronica Shaw. BYU came back and cut the lead to 12-9 behind six points from Nancy Seljaas. The Cougars then went on a 7-0 run to take a four point advantage. The two teams stayed close until the 3:30 mark when BYU ripped off a 13-2 run to take a 33-18 advantage into the half. Seljaas finished with 14 points in the half.

The second half started with the two teams exchanging baskets over the first few minutes. The Aztecs then went on a 10-3 run to cut the lead to 38-29. Both teams stayed even until the 7:55 mark when BYU used a 10-3 run of their own to take a 55-37 lead with 2:43 left. The Cougars then ripped off a 9-2 run to finish the game.

While BYU's star duo of Mallary Gillespie and Ambrosia Anderson struggled at times, it was the Cougars' role players and bench that provided a big lift. Dani Kubik recorded a career high 14 rebounds to go along with nine points. Seljaas scored a season high 15 points and Shawnee Slade contributed her five off the bench as well.

"I was very proud of the bench tonight. They came in and gave us a big lift," Judkins said.

Anderson did manage to score 12 points and Gillespie 13 though. For Anderson it was her 15th double-digit scoring game of the season and BYU's fifth game with three players scoring in double-figures.

BYU also held a big advantage on the boards, out-rebounding the Aztecs 43-26. The Cougars are now 13-0 when they out-rebound their opponent. Kubik's 14 rebounds led the team while Anderson added six.

BYU will look to stay undefeated in conference play when they take on TCU Wednesday in Dallas. Game time is scheduled for 6:00 MST.
