Anderson's Season High 20 Points and 12 Rebounds Lifts Cougars in Win Over SEMO

Ambrosia Andersons season high 20 points and 12 rebounds lifted BYU's women's basketball team to a 62-52 victory over Southeast Missouri State, Friday night in the second game of the Waikiki Beach Marriott Invitational.

The win improve's BYU's record to 5-1, while SEMO falls to 4-3 on the year.

BYU started the game on a shooting slump unable to score for the first five minutes of action, before Ambrosia Anderson came off the bench to spart the Cougar offense with the team's first 10 points to tie up the game at 10:10 with 10 minutes left in the first period.

A jumper and layup by Kristen Kozlowski three minutes later gave the Cougars a 16-10 lead, and they never looked back. At the break, BYU was up 30-23.

"I thought Ambrosia Anderson played a great first half for us," said BYU head coach Jeff Judkins.

In the second half of action, BYU lead most of the game, despite a strong effort by SEMO who managed to cut the lead to one 41-40 with just over 10 minutes left in the game. They could get no close as the Cougars won it in the final minutes at the free throw line.

"This was a great win for our team," added Judkins. "This team is learning how to win. I thought Kali Taylor gave us a spark in the second half and Tiari Goold handled their pressure very well."

For the game, the Cougars shot 41 percent from the field and 73 percent from the free throw line. They outrebounded Southeast Missouri State 44 to 27.

BYU plays one more game in the tournament, battling the University of Hawaii in a 4 p.m., game on Saturday at the Stan Sheriff Center.
