Cougars Win Off a Strong First Half Performance

PROVO -- Ambrosia Anderson came off the bench to contribute a career-high 14 points in the first half to help the Cougars defeat the Rebels 63-51 in the Marriott Center, Thursday. BYU improved to 14-8, 5-4 while UNLV fell to 14-7, 5-3.

Anderson, a freshman forward, put the Cougars ahead in the first half 40-20 with her 4-6 shooting from behind the three-point line. The team ended the first half shooting 8-13 from three-point land.

Head Coach Jeff Judkins said Anderson is a good offensive player, "The shots Ambrosia hit tonight were the ones she hits in practice all the time."

All-American Erin Thorn led the game in scoring with 19 points and in steals with four. Danielle Cheesman ended the game with a double-double, 11 points and 11 rebounds.

The attacking, team defense of BYU held UNLV's Constance Jinks to 13 points on the night. The other notable for UNLV was Padra Strong, who ended the game with a team-high 11 rebounds.

BYU shot 39 percent from the field, 22-57, while holding UNLV to 34 percent, 19-56.

The Cougars take on SDSU Saturday afternoon at 1. It is the last home game for this season for BYU and the team will honor the seniors before the game.
