Y Women's Hooops Team Ends 1999 Year With Win
BYU's women's basketball team ended 1999 on a winning note, picking up a 10-point 62-52 victory over Weber State, Friday.
Three of BYU's seniors scored in double figures with Kaysville's Jill Adams leading the way with 13 points and four rebounds. Cady Williams was next with 12 points followed by Lori Cuff with 10.
The Cougars went into the locker room at halftime with an 11-point lead 29-18. In the second half, Weber State tied the game a couple of times with the final tie at the four minute mark with the score at 49-49. BYU's defense did its job down the stretch holding the Wildcats to just seven offensive boards.
"We played pretty well and shot well today," said BYU head coach Trent Shippen. "Once again our tough defensive effort in the final minutes of play was huge for us."
Weber State's Crystal Howe led all scores with 16 points and eight rebounds. She was followed by teammate Amber Whiting who had 10 points in the afternoon contest.
BYU shot 48 percent from the field and 50 percent at the line and from the three-point arc. The Wildcats also shot 48 percent from the field, but only managed 28 percent three-point range.
The Cougars (10-3) open MWC play on the road January 13 and 15 with games against UNLV and San Diego State.
