BYU Wins 19th of Season Against Air Force, 86-69

PROVO -- Riding a 29-point halftime lead, the BYU women's basketball team beat conference rival Air Force, 86-69, Thursday night at the Marriott Center.

The Cougars (19-7, 9-4) were led by freshman standout Erin Thorn, who went 5-for-7 from the field and 4-for-6 from three-point land to tally 16 points as well as five assists. Thorn was named this week to the WBNS All-Freshman team.

Senior forward Cady Williams tacked on 14 for BYU, followed by Lori Cuff with 13 and Stacy Jensen with 12. As a team, the Cougars shot 53 percent from the field and dished out 26 assists. BYU also tied its season-high in steals with 15.

"We're playing some good basketball right now," said BYU head coach Trent Shippen. "We got off to a good start in the first half."

The Falcons (4-22, 1-12) rallied to outscore the Cougars in the second half, 45-33, but could not overcome BYU's torrid first half. Air Force senior Mollie Peters led all scorers with 19 points, while Rozalyn Russ capitalized on a 12-for-13 free throw performance to finish with 16.

BYU will conclude its regular season Saturday at the Marriott Center, playing host to New Mexico at 4 p.m.
