Women Invited To WNIT

Provo, Utah (March 11, 2001) For the third year in a row Head Coach Trent Shippen will take BYU's women's basketball team to post-season play, this time to the WNIT. The Cougars will travel to Corvallis to take on Oregon State, Friday, Mar. 16.

"I'm very excited for the opportunity our team has to continue playing," said Shippen. "We had a tough loss to CSU because we were so close, now we need to focus on the WNIT and get ready to play. We'll see if we can win a game in post season play."

This will be the third time BYU's women's program has earned a post-season invitation. Last year the team went to the NCAA losing to Oklahoma in the first round. In 1998-99 the Cougars played in the WNIT also losing in the first round to hosts Colorado.

BYU finished the season with an 18-12, 8-6 record with a fourth seed in the MWC championships where they advanced to the title game for the second straight year after victories over UNLV and 14th ranked Utah.

Oregon State finished its season with a 16-12, 8-10 record and were tied for 6th place in the Pac-10.

The Cougars vs Beavers game on Friday is set for a 7 p.m. tip off at Gill Colesium. Ticket prices are as follows: general admission $7, students $4, and reserved seats are $9. The OSU ticket office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. PST., 541-737-4455.
