Judkins Wins Coaching Debut 85-72 at Boise State

BOISE -- In his head coaching debut, Jeff Judkins recorded his first win as the women's head coach in a decisive 85-72 win at Boise State, Friday. The Cougars open the season perfect at 1-0 and Boise State starts off 0-1.

"I am happy and relieved to get the victory tonight," said Judkins. "It was a great road win and a great way to start off the season."

All-American Erin Thorn led the scoring attack with 26 points making 10 of 13 shots and adding eight rebounds and five assists. Senior Lisa Osguthorpe was a perfect from the floor making all seven of her shots, including 3-3 from behind the arc.

"Erin (Thorn) played real well both offensively and defensively," said Judkins. "We expect a lot out of her and she really stepped it up tonight."

Top freshman recruit Danielle Cheesman, starting in her first collegiate game, scored 11 points in limited action due to foul trouble. Senior Melanie Pearson, a transfer from UCLA, scored 14 points off the bench in her first game as a Cougar.

The Cougars continue their road trip and face Texas in Austin Tuesday with tip-off scheduled at 7 p.m. Central Time. BYU will face Washington State in their home opener Saturday, Nov. 24 at the Marriott Center. Tip-off will be at 1 p.m. as the first half of a double header followed by the men's team.
