Whiting adds Jana Sallman to 2023 signing class

PROVO, Utah — BYU head coach Amber Whiting today announced the addition of 6-foot-3-inch forward Jana Sallman of Egypt to the 2023 signing class.
“I am excited to have Jana join our team because of who she is,” said Whiting. “She is a no-nonsense player that loves to compete. She is a great rebounder, loves to be physical in the post and should be a great fit for our system.”
The product of the Egyptian national team, by way of Western Reserve Academy in Hudson, Ohio, averaged a double-double in the FIBA U18 African Women’s Championship in 2022. Sallman scored 14.7 points, 10 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game for her home country.
While playing for the Western Reserve Academy, the incoming freshman averaged 11.1 points and 9.8 boards, while recording 2.8 blocks, 1.4 steals and 1.2 assists for the Pioneers.
“Jana is a tall, long and physical big,” said BYU assistant coach Morgan Bailey. “She brings a balanced skillset of being a force inside, an ability to attack the basket off the dribble and can shoot it as well. Along with her skillset, I’m excited about the fearless mentality Jana brings to this team going into the Big 12. She has played on big, international stages against great competition and has a strong will to win.”
Sallman will join the Cougars for their inaugural Big 12 campaign in 2023-24.
