PROVO, Utah ‒ BYU women’s basketball held the Boise State Broncos to just 17 second-half points and picked up an 84-40 at the Marriott Center on Saturday.

“As a coach you like to see everyone on your team go out there, execute and do what they are supposed to, and I thought everybody did that today,” said BYU head coach Jeff Judkins. “Even the girls who came off the bench at the end did that, and that is what makes a great team, a team that is fun to coach.”

The Cougars moved to 4-0 on the season after today's win, which followed a tough win against power five opponent, Arizona State, earlier this week.

BYU’s defense held the Boise State Broncos to 20 percent shooting from the field, 10 percent from the 3-point line and 60 percent from the charity stripe. In contrast, the Cougars shot 55.8 percent from the field, 47.1 percent from three and 78.3 from the free-throw line.

Shaylee Gonzales and Nani Falatea led the Cougars scoring with 14 points each. Falatea shot 5-for-5 from the field and 4-for-4 from the three. BYU had 38 points off the bench and 23 off turnovers in the game.

First Quarter

Paisley Harding started the scoring for BYU hitting a three from the corner, leading to a 7-0 run for the Cougars.

With a steal from Harding and a layup from Gonzales, the Cougars gained momentum going up over the Broncos the remainder of the quarter.

Emma Calvert came off the bench strong for BYU, putting up her first two points of the season on free throws and followed those up with a block. The Cougars finished the half with a three from Falatea and a steal and layup from Albiero. BYU led 22-13 going into the second quarter.

Second Quarter

BYU started the second quarter with a few early baskets, leading to a 7-0 run.

BYU's defense held strong with two steals from Harding. The Cougars shot four-for-four from the free throw line in the second quarter and were able to keep their lead for the entirety of the first half.

The Cougars went into the locker room with a double digit lead of 33-23 at half.

Third Quarter

The Cougars started the third quarter with a steal from Albiero and a layup from Gonzales.

Harding drew her second shooting foul of the day on a made layup. She knocked her free throw down making it a three-point play. Hamson came off the bench strong with her own three-point play and a block.

Falatea came off the bench to score five points, contributing to BYU’s 18-2 run. The Cougars outscored the Broncos 28-8 and ended the third quarter up by 30 points with a 61-31 lead.

Fourth Quarter

Harding started the scoring in the fourth with a layup. Calvert came in hot off the bench with a layup and free throw, capitalizing on the third three-point play of the game.

Bubakar came in off the bench to put up her first points of the season, sinking a three and a layup. Vorwaller kept up the pace with two points off the bench.

Calvert led the quarter in scoring with seven points, putting the Cougars up by over 40. BYU played strong until the end, finishing the game with a 84-40 win over the Boise State Broncos.

BYU will take on Utah State next, in the Marriott Center Nov. 23 at 12 p.m. MST. The game can be viewed on BYUtv.org and the BYUtv app.
