Cougars to play at Santa Clara Thursday

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — BYU women’s basketball will tip off its final road trip of the regular season when it faces Santa Clara on Thursday, Feb. 25, at 6 p.m. PST. The matchup will be streamed live on the WCC Network.
ABOUT BYU (16-3, 12-2)
- The Cougars are fresh off a pair of home wins last week over No. 16 Gonzaga and Portland to increase their current winning streak to seven games
- BYU remains in second place in the WCC standings, 1.5 games back from the Zags and 3 games ahead of third place San Diego
- Shaylee Gonzales, who was named WCC Player of the Week for Feb. 22, is the WCC's second-leading scorer (18.1 ppg) and leads the team in assists (3.9 apg) and steals (2.5 spg)
- Lauren Gustin is the nation’s third-leading rebounder (12.9 rpg) and ranks seventh in the country in double-doubles (12)
- Sara Hamson leads the WCC in blocks per game (2.7) and ranks 16th in the category nationally. Hamson’s 387 career blocks are the most among active players in the NCAA
- As a team, BYU ranks 17th nationally in assists per game (17.1) and 20th in field-goal percentage defense (35.4)
ABOUT SANTA CLARA (13-9, 9-7)
- The Broncos split a pair of road games last week, beating LMU 79-65 on Feb. 16 before falling to San Francisco 87-64 on Feb. 20
- Santa Clara currently sits in fourth place in the conference standings
- Junior guard Lindsey VanAllen paces the Broncos in scoring with a 12.6 point-per-game average
- Senior forward Ashlyn Herlihy averages a team-best 6.8 rebounds per game while sophomore guard Ashlee Maldonado leads the team in assists (3.3 apg)
- As a team, Santa Clara ranks fourth in the WCC in 3-pointers per game (6.36) and in steals (8.86 spg)
