Final WCC road trip takes Cougar women to Santa Clara and San Francisco
PROVO, Utah— BYU women’s basketball is 15-9, 10-4 on the year and is set to take its final WCC road trip of the season.
The Cougars are at Santa Clara on Thursday, Feb. 20, at 7 p.m. PST. On Saturday, Feb. 22 they will battle San Francisco in a 12 p.m. PST tip-off. A live video stream will be carried on the WCC Network for both games.
ABOUT BYU
- With a 15-9, 10-4 record, BYU is tied with San Diego for second place in the latest WCC standings
- It is averaging 60.6 points and 39.7 rebounds a game; is 15-4 when it gets more blocks than its opponents; is 14-1 when dishing out more assists than opponents; is 14-1 when leading at the half
- The Cougars are nationally ranked second in field goal percentage defense (32.3); third in blocked shots per game (6.5); seventh in blocked shots (156); 14th in scoring defense (54.6); 27th in defensive rebounds (28.6)
- BYU ranks first in the WCC in field goal percentage defense, in rebounding offense and in blocked shots; ranks second in scoring defense and in defensive rebounds; places third in scoring margin, in assists, and in 3-point field goals made; ranks fifth in 3-point field goal percentage defense
- Paisley Johnson is one of two players scoring in double digits for BYU with a 13.9 average; Brenna Drollinger is tallying 11.9 points; she ranks 24th all-time in career points with 1,232; leads in assists and steals with 4.2 and 1.9 averages, respectively
- Sara Hamson leads in rebounds and blocks, with 8.1 boards and 4.54 blocks; ranks first in the nation in blocked shots (109) and in blocked shots per game (4.54); ranks third all-time at BYU in career blocks with 308
- The Cougars are holding opponents to just 54.6 points and are allowing only 37.3 rebounds a game
- In the all-time series record with the Broncos, BYU has an 18-2 mark; when playing in Santa Clara, the Cougars are 7-2 all-time; in the first matchup with Santa Clara, BYU picked up the 71-48 victory in Provo on January 25.

- Santa Clara has a 9-16, 3-11 record on the year; the Broncos are in a two-way tie for eighth place with LMU entering this week’s conference standings
- Tia Hays is one of two players on the team that puts up double-digit points with a 12.7 average; Ashlyn Herlihy follows contributing 10.1 points a game while also being the team’s top rebounder with a 7.3 average; Hays leads in assists (3.5) and steals (1.2); the team’s blocks leader is Lauren Yearwood who is getting 1.4 blocks per game
- Santa Clara was picked to finish fifth in this year’s WCC race; Hays was named to the 10-member 2019-20 Preseason All WCC team

- San Francisco has compiled a 9-17, 2-12 record to date with league wins over Santa Clara and LMU
- The Dons have four players who are putting up double figures in scoring beginning with 15 points from Mikayla Williams; teammate Lucie Hoskova follows with 14.2 points; Ionnna Krimili is next contributing 14 points a contest; Leilah Vigil rounds out the scoring with an 11.2 points per game average
- In the rebounds category, Vigil tops the list pulling down 10.1 boards a contest; Hoskova is the squad’s assist leader dishing out 2.3 per game; Abby Rathbun leads in the steals category with a 1.6 average; Williams is getting the most blocks on the squad with her 1.1 average
- BYU leads the overall series with the Dons 20-5; when playing in San Francisco, the Cougars have a 7-3 record; in the first meeting between the league foes this year, BYU won 57-44 in Provo on January 23.
