Johnson named WCC Women's Basketball Player of the Week

SAN BRUNO, Calif. — The West Coast Conference has named BYU sophomore guard Paisley Johnson its Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for January 14, 2019.

The honor is the first for Johnson and the second for BYU this year.

She guided the BYU team to a perfect 6-0-league record, scoring at least 20+points in both road wins this week.

At Pacific, Johnson tied for game highs with 24 points along with three assists, two rebounds and one steal in 38 minutes. She went 2 of 4 from 3-point range and 6 of 8 from the free throw line.

In the one-point 74-73 win at Saint Mary’s,  she led the team with a career-high 25 points along with two rebounds, two steals and one assist in 36 minutes. Johnson shot 69.2 percent from the field, 66.7 percent from behind the arc and 60 percent from the charity stripe. The 69.2 and 66.7 shooting percentages are bests in league play to date.

For the week, her stat sheet included 49 points, four rebounds, four assists, and three blocks. Johnson averaged 24.5 points and 2.0 rebounds a game. She shot 63 percent from the field, 60 percent from the 3-point line and 69.2 percent from the charity stripe.

The Cougars are back home this week hosting No.14/15 Gonzaga on Thursday, Jan. 17, at 7 p.m. MST. The Bulldogs are 5-0 in WCC play.
