PROVO, Utah — BYU women’s basketball is slated to host Colorado Mesa Thursday, Nov. 2, at 7 p.m., in an exhibition contest.

Thursday’s game will give Cougar fans the first opportunity to see the 16-member 2017-18 team on the Marriott Center floor.

About BYU
BYU returns two starters, six letterwinners and welcomes eight newcomers to the program. Only five players back this season saw significant playing time last year. Earlier this month, the Cougars were picked to finish third in the 2017-18 West Coast Conference Preseason Poll behind Gonzaga and Saint Mary’s.

Reigning WCC Player of the Year Cassie Broadhead Devashrayee, was named to the 10-member 2017-18 All-WCC Preseason Women’s Basketball Team.

BYU finished the 2016-17 campaign with a 20-12 record, for the 11th overall and eighth straight 20-plus win season. In league play, the Cougars tied for second place with Saint Mary’s with identical 13-5 marks. For the second straight season, the Cougars finished conference play undefeated at home.  BYU also extended its season by competing in the first round of the WNIT.

About Colorado Mesa
Colorado Mesa returns three starters from last year’s team that compiled a 21-7 overall record and went 17-5 in conference play. The  Mavericks compete in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference where they were predicted to finish fourth in the 2017-18 league race. Last year, the team reached the RMAC tournament semifinals. Senior guard Erin Reichle was named to the preseason All-RMAC team. She averaged 13.2 points, 4.1 assists, and 3.8 rebounds per game a year ago.  Reichle hails from Pleasant View, Utah. Joining her on the team are two other players with Utah connections. Ma’ata Epenisa is a senior center from Magna who played at Salt Lake Community College and Sierra McNicol is from South Jordan and prepped at Bingham High School.

Thursday night’s exhibition game is free. A live video stream will be available on theW.tv.

The Cougars open up the 2017-18 season  at home hosting Southern Utah on Fri., Nov. 10, at 7 p.m.
