Broadhead named WCC Player of the Week
SAN BRUNO, Calif.— The West Coast Conference has named BYU junior guard Cassie Broadhead this week’s WCC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. It is the first honor for Broadhead this year and in her career and she’s the third BYU player to receive the weekly recognition this season.
Broadhead, a 5-foot-9 guard from Greenville, N.Y., and Scotia Glenville High School, recorded back-to-back double-figure scoring games to keep BYU tied for second place in the WCC.
In the home game against Pepperdine, she nearly had a triple-double from 13 points, a game-high eight assists and six rebounds. She went 3 of 5 from behind the arc and was perfect at the free-throw line going 2 of 2. Broadhead also collected two blocks, which tied for game highs.
Against San Francisco, she recorded her 13th game with 20-plus points with a game-high 22 points. Once again she flirted with another triple-double tying for game highs in rebounds with eight and in assists with seven. Broadhead was 6 of 7 from the free-throw line and shot 8 of 14 from the field.
For the week, she totaled 35 points, 14 rebounds, 15 assists, three blocks and two steals while shooting 54.5 percent from the field, 37.5 percent from 3-point range and 88.9 percent from the charity stripe.
