Bailey named WCC Player of the Week

San Bruno, Calif.  —  The West Coast Conference has named BYU’s Morgan Bailey the women’s basketball Player of the Week, for Dec. 15, 2014. The weekly honor is the first ever for Bailey and the first for the team this season.

Bailey, a 6-foot-2 senior forward from Orem and Timpanogos HS, helped guide the Cougar women to two wins over in-state rivals. In the two victories, she averaged 23.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 1.0 steals and 1.0 blocks.

She picked up a career-best 28 points in the 64-53 win over Weber State. The points were game highs and marked the eighth double-digit outing in points. She also pulled down eight rebounds and had a game-best two blocks.

In the game at Utah, she picked up her third double-double of the year with a game-high 18 points and 10 rebounds. She played all 40 minutes, had one steal and was perfect at the line going 2 for 2. BYU beat the Utes 60-56, snapping their four-game home win streak.

Bailey’s totals include tallying 46 points, 18 rebounds, two blocks, two steals and one assist. She shot 56.3 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from the free-throw line.

Currently, she ranks first on the team in rebounding with a 9.2 average, second in scoring, averaging 17.9 points per game, has the team’s best field goal percentage at .547 (75-137) and leads in blocks with five.

The Cougars (7-3) are off this week for finals and get back to basketball action next Monday. Dec. 22, when they travel to Logan to take on Utah State at 7 p.m.
