PROVO, Utah – The 2014-15 BYU basketball season is right around the corner and on Oct. 17, you’ll have the chance to see the Cougars in action at the second annual ‘Boom Shakalaka: The BYU Basketball Showcase.’

Boom Shakalaka will be held on Friday, Oct. 17, in the Smith Fieldhouse at 7 p.m. MT and will be televised live on BYUtv and BYUtvsports.com. Spencer Linton and Jarom Jordan of BYU Sports Nation will call the action as the men’s and women’s basketball teams will compete in a 3-point shootout and a skills competition. The night will be capped by the slam dunk contest with members of the men’s team.

Fans are encouraged to pack the Fieldhouse to cheer on their favorite players and get ready for the upcoming season. The event will feature promotions and giveaways for fans in the arena and on social media. Admission to Boom Shakalaka is free.

After an impressive run in the 2014 NCAA Tournament advancing to the Sweet Sixteen, the women's team looks to continue that success into the upcoming season. BYU returns nine letterwinners including three starters from last year's team that won 28 games, the most in program history.

In preparation for the season, the Cougar women will play two exhibition games on Nov. 1 vs. Westminster and Nov. 8 vs. Ft. Lewis. The team's home opener is on Wednesday, Nov. 19 vs. CSUN.
