Ten women garner WCC Commissioner’s Honor Roll citations

PROVO, Utah— Ten BYU women’s basketball players were named to the West Coast Conference Honor Roll for the 2013-14 academic season.

Ashley Garfield led the way with the team’s highest GPA at 3.97 earning Gold Honors  (4.00-3.75). She is majoring in school health education.

Kim Beeston (3.61) and Kylie Maeda (3.51) picked up Silver Honors (3.74-3.50). Beeston also studied school health education while Maeda lists exercise and wellness as her major.

Jennifer Hamson (3.48) was among seven other women’s basketball players that received bronze honors (3.49-3.00). She majored in exercise science.  In addition, Kristine Fuller (3.39), Carly Stratton (3.38), Lexi Eaton (3.36), Makenzi Morrison (3.26), Stephanie Rovetti (3.15) and Xojian Harry (3.04) also obtained bronze honors.

This year’s honor is the third for Garfield, Hamson, Beeston and Harry and the second for Maeda.

The WCC recognized more than 1,000 student-athletes from 10 schools for balancing academic excellence and athletic success.

To be named to the WCC Commissioner’s Honor Roll student-athletes must have earned a varsity letter in a sport where the WCC crowned a champion in the 2013-2014 season while maintaining a 3.0 GPA or higher and completing an average of 12 graded credit hours per term.

The honor roll recipients are split into three categories based on GPA. Gold honors go to student-athletes who earned a 3.75 or higher. Silver honors are awarded to those student-athletes with GPAs between 3.74 and 3.50, and bronze honors go to student-athletes with GPAs between 3.49 and 3.00.  For the full release go to the WCC website.
