Hamson honored by College Sports Madness

PROVO, Utah—College Sports Madness has named BYU center Jennifer Hamson, the Madness West Coast Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, for her exceptional performance during the past week’s action. It’s the second such honor for Hamson this season.

College Sports Madness identifies the players who have made the greatest impact to their team from each conference and on a national basis each Monday.

Hamson was instrumental in guiding the Cougar women to two league victories this week. She recorded her 17th double-double of the year from a game-best 27 points and 13 rebounds in the home win over Portland on Thursday.

She followed that up with a game-high 20 points, eight rebounds and a game-best seven blocks in BYU’s 62-52 upset victory over No. 20/15 Gonzaga on Saturday.

Hamson leads the team in points, rebounds and blocked shots, averaging 18.3 ppg, 11.1 rpg, and 4.3 bpg. Nationally, she ranks first in blocked shots, 12th in double-doubles, 14th in rebounds per game and 18th in field goal percentage.
