Hamson garners second WCC Player of the Week honor

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – BYU senior center Jennifer Hamson has been named West Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for February 3, 2014. It’s her second such honor this season.

The 6-7 senior center from Lindon, Utah, recorded back-to-back double-doubles in the two league games played this week. For the week, she averaged 21 points, 14 rebounds, 5.5 blocks, 3.0 assists, while shooting 72.7 percent from the field and 76.9 percent from the charity stripe.

Hamson recorded her second straight double-double at the end of the first half of action at Pacific leading all scorers with 19 points and 10 rebounds. In the 88-57 road win over the Tigers, she finished the game with a game-high 25 points and a career-and game-best 18 rebounds.  Hamson added a game-high seven blocks marking the second straight game leading the way in that category. She also picked up career highs in assists with four.

The double-double against Pacific was Hamson’s 14th of the year and 23rd of her career.

In the five-point, 70-75 road loss at Saint Mary’s, she scored 17 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Hamson also had a game-high four blocks, shot 75 percent from the field and 71 percent from the free throw line.

On the team, she tops the list in points averaging 17.2, leads in the rebound category pulling down 10.8 boards and has the most blocks with 90, while leading the nation in blocked shots per game with a 4.1 average.
