Cougars to compete in javelin and pole vault at Texas Relays

PROVO, Utah – A squad of javelin throwers and pole vaulters will represent BYU track and field at the Texas Relays March 25-27 at the Mike A. Myers Track and Soccer Stadium in Austin, Texas.

Meet Information

Five javelin throwers will compete on Thursday, March 25 while three pole vaulters are set to go on Friday, March 26.

Jacob Barnes and Michael Whittaker will be in the men’s javelin throw ‘B’ section that starts at 3 p.m. CDT. on Thursday.

All-American Ashton Riner and Payge Jauhiainen will compete in the women’s javelin throw ‘A’ section at 5 p.m. Riner is currently ranked No. 6 in the nation after opening the season with a toss of 52.91m/173-7 at the UNLV Spring opener.

Cameron Bates will round out the javelin throwers in the men’s javelin throw ‘A’ section at 6:30 p.m. The sophomore is currently No. 6 in the NCAA Division I this year with a mark of 70.99m/232-11 earned at the UNLV Spring Opener.

On Friday, Hannah Richardson is set to compete in the women’s pole vault at 8:30 a.m. All-American pole vaulters Zach McWhorter and Caleb Witsken are set to start competition at 12:30 p.m. McWhorter is currently No. 2 in the nation after he cleared 5.40m/17-8.5 last weekend at the UNLV Invitational.

No Cougars are scheduled to compete on Saturday, the final day of the Texas Relays.
