Swim and Dive athletes break school records at MPSF Championships

MONTEREY PARK, Calif. — BYU’s swim and dive teams broke multiple school records on day two of the MPSF Championships.

A team of Brigham Harrison, Roger Woods, Javier Nicolas Matta and Connor Stirling won the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:18.07, setting a new school record for the event. 

Stirling went on to take first in the 50-yard freestyle, posting a time of 19.74, and Tanner Nelson took first in the men’s 500-yard freestyle, setting another new school record with a time of 4:16.56.

Matta took second place in the 200-yard IM with a time of 1:45.36, while Tama Tuitama followed in fourth with a 1:47.09.

On the women’s team, Brynn Sproul won the women’s 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:48.81. Katie McBratney then placed fourth in the 200-yard IM, recording a time of 2:01.64.

The divers began their first day of competition, with Kennedy Cribbs and Mickey Strauss taking first place in their individual events. Strauss won the men’s 1m dive event with a score of 358.75. Eric Muir and Cody Dreesen took fourth and fifth in the event, posting scores of 321.05 and 304.80 respectively. Cribbs took first in the women’s 3m event, posting a score of 359.50 to tie the school record and qualify for Olympic Trials.

Competition will resume on Friday with preliminaries beginning at 10 a.m. PST and finals happening at 5 p.m. MST.
