Cougars compete in relays on Day 1 of MPSF Championships

BYU swimmer competes against Colorado

MONTEREY PARK, Calif. — BYU’s swim team began competition at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation championships on Wednesday, competing in four relays on Feb. 16.

A team of Brynn Sproul, Katie McBratney, Rachel Oyler and Halli Williams took third in the women’s 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:40.05. Sproul, McBratney, Regan Geldmacher and Daniela Flores-Bautista then took fourth place in the women’s 800-yard free relay, swimming a time of 7:23.01.

On the men’s side, a team of Diego Camacho, Josue Dominguez, Javier Nicolas Matta and Connor Stirling took second in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:27.12. Camacho, Tamagotchi’s Tuitama, Abe Barragan and Tanner Nelson then took fourth place in the 800-free relay, posting a time of 6:31.17.

Competition will continue on Thursday with BYU swimmers competing in the 200-yard free relay, 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard IM and 50-yard freestyle. The divers will begin competition as well, with the women’s 3m and men’s 1m events taking place in Mission Viejo.
