Cougars take fourth place at Air Force Diving Invitational

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — BYU’s dive team traveled to Colorado this week for the Air Force Diving Invitational, facing over 60 athletes from seven other collegiate teams and taking fourth place overall.

Kennedy Cribbs made her mark in each of the events she competed in. Cribbs started off Thursday placing third with a 298.45 in the women’s 3m preliminary competition, then went on to earn second in the finals with a 327.30 later that day. On Saturday, she took fifth in the women’s platform prelim, recording a score of 231.40.

Hailey Johnson had a standout meet, qualifying for finals in both the women’s 3m and platform events. Johnson earned a score of 274.70 in the 3m prelims on Thursday, taking seventh place. She went on to score a 267.90 in the finals, taking eighth. On Saturday, Johnson placed eighth in the platform prelims with a 207.95, then earned fifth place in the finals with a 208.65.

Kayli Kersavage earned a top-ten finish in the platform finals, taking seventh place with a 204.60.

On the men’s side, Mickey Strauss earned top-five placements in the finals of each of his events. Strauss began Friday’s competition with a 335.55 in the 3m preliminary competition, taking sixth, before scoring a 357.15 in the event finals to earn fifth place. On Saturday, he placed eighth in the platform prelims with a 304.60, then jumped to fifth place in the finals with a 327.35.

Eric Muir took 12th place in Friday’s 3m prelims with a 295.30. He qualified for the consolation finals for that event, placing seventh with a 263.85.

Coming up: the swim and dive teams will compete at the MPSF Championships in California from Feb. 16-19.
