PROVO, Utah—Top-10 finishes in cross country and soccer put BYU in the top 35 of the fall standings for both men and women of the NCAA’s third annual Capital One Cup trophy.

BYU is in ninth place in women’s sports standings for finishing No. 5 the in women’s soccer NCAA College Cup and 35th in men’s sports standings for finishing No. 6 at the men’s cross country NCAA Championships. Women’s soccer was awarded 18 points for its finish and men’s cross country earned five points.

Schools earn points based on top-10 finishes in NCAA Division I championships and in final official coaches’ polls across 20 women’s and 19 men’s sports. The Capital One Cup winners will be determined at the end of the spring season and honored at the ESPY Awards in July.  The winning teams will receive the Capital One Cup trophy and a combined $400,000 in student-athlete scholarships. Last year Florida won on the men’s side and Stanford claimed the women’s cup. Both schools won the inaugural title the previous year as well.
